Simonsen Sussman LLP Welcomes Three New Associates

Simonsen Sussman LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Nico Gurian, Thomas Mattes, and Paul Goodrich as Associates of the firm. Their unique backgrounds spanning government service, complex commercial litigation, and regulatory enforcement further enhance the firm's capacity to handle high-stakes matters for its clients.

Nico Gurian
Nico Gurian is an experienced litigator who previously served as a Trial Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), where he represented the United States at both the trial and appellate levels. Before the DOJ, Nico focused on representing whistleblowers under the False Claims Act. He clerked for the Honorable Nicholas G. Garaufis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and holds a J.D. and B.A. from Columbia University.

Thomas Mattes
Thomas Mattes joins the firm from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), where he was an attorney in the Technology Enforcement Division. At the FTC, he was a member of the trial team in FTC v. Meta Platforms and worked on other in-depth investigations in digital markets. Thomas holds a J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the Berkeley Technology Law Journal, and a B.A. from Kenyon College.

Paul Goodrich 
Paul is an experienced litigator who has represented clients in a wide range of complex commercial disputes, primarily on the plaintiff side. His significant pro bono work includes investigating claims of police torture for the Illinois Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission (TIRC) and serving as counsel in a voting rights case. Paul clerked for the Honorable Melissa Damian of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He holds a J.D. from New York University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Chicago.
